{"id":1679,"date":"2013-05-14T22:53:43","date_gmt":"2013-05-15T03:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/birdingnotes.sigridsanders.com\/?p=1679"},"modified":"2013-06-12T16:06:01","modified_gmt":"2013-06-12T21:06:01","slug":"late-afternoon-calls-of-scarlet-and-summer-tanagers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/birdingnotes.sigridsanders.com\/?p=1679","title":{"rendered":"Late Afternoon Calls of Scarlet and Summer Tanagers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Early this evening, the <em>chick-brrr<\/em> of a Scarlet Tanager and the <em>pik-a-tuk<\/em> calls of a Summer Tanager both laced through the trees around the edge of our back yard \u2013 very welcome sounds that brought a happy end to the day. So far this spring we\u2019ve heard and seen both tanagers now and then, but not often and not regularly.<\/p>\n<p>Tufted Titmice and Carolina Chickadees came to bathe in the shallow saucers on the deck rails, as they usually do at end of day, and a Brown-headed Nuthatch came to drink from the moat in the hummingbird feeder.<\/p>\n<p>A male Ruby-throated Hummingbird made several trips to the feeder. Then a female arrived. She went first to the feeder and started to settle down for a sip \u2013 then suddenly zipped up and directly over toward me. I was sitting in a chair nearby and she came so fast and so close it startled me.
